Choose Your Equipment

Brewing Kettle

The brewing kettle is where you will boil your wort (unfermented beer). It should be made of stainless steel or aluminum and have a capacity of at least 5 gallons.


The fermenter is where your beer will ferment. You can use a plastic bucket or a glass carboy. Make sure it has a capacity of at least 5 gallons.


The airlock is a small device that allows carbon dioxide to escape from the fermenter while preventing oxygen and bacteria from entering.

Bottling Equipment

Clean and Sanitize

Before you start brewing, make sure that all of your equipment is clean and sanitized. Use a mild detergent and rinse thoroughly. Then sanitize with a solution of water and a no-rinse sanitizer.

Boil the Wort

Bring the water to a boil and add the malt extract. Boil for 60-90 minutes, adding hops at various intervals to achieve the desired bitterness and flavor.

Cool the Wort

After boiling, cool the wort as quickly as possible to prevent contamination. You can use a wort chiller or an ice bath.

Pitch the Yeast

Once the wort is cooled, transfer it to the fermenter and pitch the yeast. Seal the fermenter with the airlock and let it ferment for 1-2 weeks.

Bottle the Beer

After fermentation is complete, transfer the beer to a bottling bucket and add priming sugar. Bottle the beer and let it carbonate for 1-2 weeks.
